Develop your skills

The CDHD and its partners offer courses aimed at developing your knowledge and enhancing your skills. Courses range from professional certifications through to postgraduate study. All training is tailored to professionals who work with children and/or people with disabilities. 

Community Based Supports training

Community Based Supports (CBS) is a professional certification training course. It’s required by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare for all professionals who work with children with disabilities to provide services.

This is a continuous offering with no registration deadlines – you can sign up and complete the training as needed.

Inservice credit

The Idaho Training Clearinghouse (ITC) provides inservice/professional development credit courses across a variety of special education topics. Credit is offered through the University of Idaho and targeted for inservice K-12 educators. 

Courses run in fall, winter, spring and summer sessions. Important dates and available courses are listed on the ITC website.

Doctorate of Philosophy in Education

Earn a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education with an emphasis in Autism and other Related Disabilities (ASD/RD). This advanced degree is offered through the University of Idaho, College of Education, Health and Human Sciences.

It’s designed to prepare prospective university faculty and leaders to teach and conduct and disseminate research. It also focuses on securing funding for research in the area of autism spectrum disorder and other related disabilities.

IdahoSTARS training

IdahoSTARS has opportunities for child care providers to participate in professional development trainings. This includes live, online and facilitated training sessions and events.

Self-Advocacy Training Series

The Idaho Living Well Project presents a comprehensive system of training and career development to ensure that:

  • individuals and family members have the tools necessary to advocate, protect and guide their own lives
  • providers support individuals through the use of evidence-based approaches philosophically aligned with principles and practices of person-centered thinking and self-determination.
