There are a number of monitoring activities that the State and Districts must engage in to ensure that students with disabilities receive educational experiences that help prepare them for life and to meet the General Supervision Requirements outlined in IDEA 2004.
The Idaho State Department of Education (SDE) developed activities that meet the requirements for monitoring and data collection around the compliance and performance of the State Performance Plan (SPP) Indicators, which are the IDEA 2004 Monitoring Priority Indicators. Idaho SDE has continued to look for ways to place an equal focus on both performance and compliance that is required by IDEA. It is the goal of the SDE to communicate clear expectations, minimize the burden placed on districts, and to support districts in their improvement efforts. Together we can make a difference for children with disabilities in Idaho.
The Special Education Continuous Improvement Monitoring System in Idaho includes the following monitoring activities:
- Child Count Verification
- Performance Responses
- Focused Monitoring Visits
- Data Verification
- General Supervision Visits
General Supervision Visits occur as needed whenever the State has knowledge that suggests there are system issues that may be negatively impacting services for students with disabilities. This information may come from a variety of sources such as through dispute processes, parent calls of concern, and/or information gathered through desk audits. The other monitoring activities, Compliance Verification, Performance Responses, Focused Monitoring Visits, and Data Verification occur annually.
