About CDHD

Build a more inclusive Idaho

The Idaho CDHD operates grant programs that provide training, services and assistance for people with disabilities, families, professionals and local communities across the state.

We also carry out research and outreach activities that further knowledge in the field and work to create more inclusive environments.

Our goal is to create opportunities where all people, including people with disabilities, can thrive within their communities. This is achieved by engaging in activities across five key areas:

  • interdisciplinary training of university students for employment in leadership and direct service positions
  • direct services to enhance the well-being of individuals with disabilities and their families
  • community training and technical assistance to increase awareness and knowledge, enhance resources and services, and strengthen connections across communities
  • research and evaluation of promising practices to help develop new knowledge and improved programs in the field of disabilities
  • sharing information, products and resources with people with disabilities, families, professionals, agencies, policy makers, students and volunteers.

The CDHD is part of the national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). Each UCEDD is associated with a university. As Idaho's UCEDD, we are associated with the University of Idaho, College of Education, Health and Human Sciences.

Mission

We advance evidence-based practices for people with disabilities, their families and communities through exemplary and innovative education, outreach, research and service.

Guiding principles

We believe that all people have the right to:

  • access services that emphasize strengths and abilities
  • make decisions, take risks and define the quality of the life they choose
  • be equal partners in building inclusive and interdependent communities.
