What is Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)?

Competitive Integrated Employment, or CIE, means people with disabilities have a job in their community where people with and without disabilities work together. In these jobs, everyone is paid at least the minimum wage, receives similar benefits, has the same chances to get promoted, and is treated fairly.

CIE gives everyone the same opportunities as others at work, but getting there takes more than just a job offer, it takes skills. To learn more about CIE, watch the brief informative video on Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) Skills.

Why CIE Skills Matter

When youth build CIE skills, they’re not just getting ready for a job, they’re getting ready to be more independent, finding meaning in what they do, and preparing for a bright future.

Your Future Starts with Skills

CIE Skills help young people do well at work and in life. These skills go beyond job training. They include things like staying organized, managing time, working with others, and solving problems.

When people build these skills, they can feel more confident and do more on their own. View the 10 CIE Skills poster for more information.
