FAQs

Community Compass is a program that helps you plan for your future. It connects you with skills, people, and community supports that can help you:

  • Learn about jobs and careers
  • Build independence
  • Get ready for life after high school
  • Work toward Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)

Think of it as a guide that helps point you in the right direction.

Community Compass is for:

  • Students and youth with disabilities (ages 10–24)
  • Families or caregivers
  • Teachers, job coaches, and other adults who support you

You don’t have to do this alone. Your support team can be part of it, too.

In Community Compass, you will:

  • Learn about your strengths, interests, and goals
  • Practice skills that help with school, work, and daily life
  • Learn how to speak up for yourself and ask for help
  • Explore jobs, careers, and training options
  • Meet or learn about community agencies that can support you

With Community Compass you may:

  • Attend Interactive Interviews with agencies from around the state.
  • Complete online learning modules with or without help from an adult.
  • Complete self-assessments to track your progress toward your goals.

Activities like the Interactive Interviews and the CIE Skills Quick Guides can be found on the Idaho Training Clearninghouse (ITC) website. Other things, like the CIE Skills online modules, are accessed through Canvas, an online learning platform. For the 2025-26 school year, you can get access to Canvas if you are working with the Idaho Pathways to Partnerships pilot schools.

Community Compass helps you:

  • Learn job readiness skills
  • Explore careers that match your interests
  • Practice workplace skills and habits
  • Learn about supports that help you find and keep a job

All of this helps prepare you for Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)—having a real job in the community with fair pay and opportunities.

Community Compass connects you to people who can help, such as:

  • Teachers and school staff
  • Job coaches
  • Idaho Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (IDVR)
  • Centers for Independent Living (CILs)
  • Idaho Parents Unlimited (IPUL)
  • Community programs
  • Employers

These people and agencies work together as a team to support your goals.

That’s okay! Community Compass is here to help you figure them out. You don’t need all the answers right now. You just need to be open to learning and trying.

The Idaho Secondary Transition Framework (ISTF) is a tool you can use to plan for life after high school. It has six outcomes that you can work towards. Each outcome is broken down into four levels to help you along the way. The ISTF also gives your support team a way to understand your path to adulthood. It can give you a way to talk with your team so you can work together and build a plan to help you reach your goals.

You can:

  • Ask your teacher or job coach
  • Talk with your family or caregiver
  • Ask about Vocational Rehabilitation or community partners
