SPED 101

Description

Special Education 101 is a professional development course designed to equip school administrators with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the special education process effectively. Participants will enhance their leadership within IEP teams and gain strategies to promote meaningful access to general education content for students with disabilities. Additionally, participants will be able to use their deeper understanding of special education to ensure that the procedural, substantive, and implementation dimensions of FAPE are appropriately applied within their buildings. By the end of the course, administrators will be empowered to lead with confidence and foster inclusive educational opportunities.


Registration

This FREE 2-credit online PD course, available through either Boise State University or University of Idaho, runs for four weeks from June 14, 2026 - July 19, 2026. The course includes 4 modules, 4 assignments, and 4 virtual meetings, which will take place each Wednesday 9:00 - 11:00am PDT/10:00am - 12:00 pm MDT. There will be no class on July 1, 2026.

Enroll for credit on the Idaho Training Clearinghouse. If you are enrolling through University of Idaho, you will need to enter the discount code SPED to have the course cost covered. If you are enrolling through Boise State University, your discount is automatically applied.


Audience

Designed for new and experienced school administrators—principals, vice principals, deans of students, and other educational leaders—seeking to strengthen their knowledge of the special education process and leadership role in supporting inclusive practices.
