Specific Learning Disability

On October 20, 2023, the Idaho Department of Education received an inquiry letter from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) regarding concerns that the state's current eligibility criteria for Specific Learning Disability were too stringent based on IDEA guidelines. In response, the Department put together a workgroup to develop compliant criteria, as well as provide communication and training to Local Education Agencies (LEAs), parents, educational partners, higher education, and others. The following resources have been created to support LEAs in understanding the new criteria as well as remediation processes for students evaluated for suspected SLD and found ineligible after October 20, 2023.
